Meet Lauren Cotton!

I have called Virginia my home for about twenty five years now, and Lake of the Woods my home for twenty two of those years! I grew up on the ocean and my husband and I eventually met in Virginia Beach. Having grown up on the ocean, I had no interest in moving to a lake community, but of course, the first time I visited Lake of the Woods I immediately had a change of heart. You can't help falling in love with this community over a 4th of July weekend!
My husband and I have four kids whose ages range from 19-24. We have raised our kids here in Orange County and all of our kids have since graduated from Orange County High School. Throughout the years we have been involved in local and high school sports, the Lake of the Woods water ski club, the Lake of the Woods Adaptive water ski program, and our local church.

Our ties to this community run deep and we are very proud to call Lake of the Woods and Orange County our home!

My favorite child is my boxer, Bailey. Yes, my human children know that Bailey is my favorite! She is my seven year old boxer who for the most part gives me no problems and is always excited to see me. She is very energetic and playful - you'd never guess she isn't a puppy, but her greying face is starting to give it away!

Lake life!

Whether on a jet ski or enjoying the gorgeous views after a rain storm, my family and I are all about the lake life!

Summertime fun

Have you really lived if you haven't been whipped around behind a boat, driven by your dad, on a warm summer day? We will save this activity for the kids! Although we are all avid water skiers sometimes you just want to have some fun tubing!

Relaxing at the lake

Depending on what side of the lake you are on, you can enjoy spectacular sunrises or beautiful sunsets. From our location, we can enjoy some gorgeous sunrises! Good thing I am a morning person and get up early enough to see them!

Wildlife here at the lake is pretty impressive too! My family and I love to see the swans, geese, and ducks swimming by. We occasionally see a heron stop by as well!

My favorite season

Although I am a lake girl through and through, I have to admit that my favorite season is winter. I grew up on the ocean in warm climates and didn't really ever see snow until I moved to Virginia as an adult.
That was about 25 years ago now and to this day during the winter when it snows I just can't help but to want to stop whatever I am doing and run outside to play in it! Well maybe not play in it, but definitely stop to enjoy it from the comfort of my warm home.

We love to camp!

2020 was a tough year for so many. Like others, my husband and I were looking for ways to get out of the house, so we decided to purchase a camper and start enjoying the great outdoors. My only regret with purchasing a camper was not doing it sooner!
With Covid restrictions easing and work schedules going back to normal, we don't get to camp as much as we would like to, but we still try to schedule a few weekends away here and there!

Lake life and camping life

Even though I love the lake life, I have discovered that I also love the camping life! What better way to end a long week than with a campfire and s'mores? Late night talks around the campfire are just what I need to get re-energized for the week.
